Cat Scratches

Cats usually pull up the leather surface and leave ‘tags’ on the surface finish attached.  These ‘tags’ need to be fixed back down if a good finish is to be achieved.

Using a pin (or similar) tease up these loose flaps and practice laying them back down.  When you are happy that you can lay them back down to get the best result introduce some colour (pigment touch up) to the damage using a pin or fine paint brush and lay the loose tag down while the pigment is wet.  The pigment will act as an adhesive and colour any areas left exposed. Dab out any excess colour to avoid leaving blobs of colour on the surface.

Before starting the above process it is advisable to wash down the area to be repaired with Alcohol Cleaner. Keep your cloth very wet with product and use it as a wash (do not use any rubbing action with this product).
If there are a lot of scratches in one panel wash down the whole panel.  This will leave the area a very clean surface which will help the pigment to adhere better.  Always test Alcohol Cleaner on a small area before using it to ensure that no colour is being removed.  On first application it will lighten the area bit as it dries this will revert to the original colour. 

For the best results you will need to tackle all the scratch marks in the above manner.  Once that has been done you can leave overnight then treat with Leather Protector.  Or, if you feel it will improve the area, dab thin coats of colour over the area to blend the marks in.  Thin coats dried in between with a hair dryer will give a far better finish than one thick coat of paint.  Allow colour to dry overnight and treat with Leather protector.
